Maintenance tips for pearl jewelry, how to clean and store it?

As an organic gemstone with lower hardness, the maintenance of pearls is more demanding than ordinary gemstones‼ ️Because if you are not careful, the pearls will turn yellow and their gloss will not be as good as before! So, how to maintain pearls? Be sure to remember the following pearl care tips!

1.Place alone

As a gemstone with a Mohs hardness of only 2.5-4.5, pearls are really not wear-resistant! So never put it together with other gemstone jewelry, especially those with high Mohs hardness. Put the pearls in and they will only be worn! It must be stored separately, preferably in a velvet box, to avoid wearing away the surface of the pearl and keep it smooth.

2. Stay away from chemicals

As an organic gemstone, the main component of pearls is calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate easily reacts with other chemicals and mutates, so try to avoid direct contact of pearls with chemicals such as perfumes and cosmetics! And don’t cook wearing pearls! It is recommended to wear pearl jewelry after makeup, which can effectively reduce the chance of pearls being corroded by chemical substances.

3. Let the pearls "breathe" more fresh air

Since pearls are a product of shellfish and need to be in constant contact with the air, it is not recommended to store pearls in a sealed environment. If they are sealed for a long time, the surface of the pearl will easily turn yellow, which will affect the quality of the pearl over time!

4. Avoid exposure to the sun

Pearls contain a certain amount of water. If exposed to high temperatures and sunlight, the pearls will become dehydrated and lose their luster! Therefore, if you have outdoor activities that last for a long time during the day, try to avoid wearing pearl jewelry!

5. Don’t touch the pearl necklace frequently.

When wearing pearls, try to avoid touching them frequently, because there is some oil on our skin, and pearls will turn yellow if they are exposed to oil for a long time.

6. Avoid contact with water

Pearls should be kept away from water as much as possible, because there are many small pores on the surface of natural pearls. Once the pearls are exposed to water, the surface cannot be wiped clean thoroughly. If water enters the interior through the pores and cannot be discharged, it will increase the probability of mold inside! The ornamental value of the pearls will be greatly reduced.

7. Please replace the pearl thread every year

We recommend that you replace the pearl string once a year. After wearing pearls for a long time, the pearl string will be attached to the body's sweat and oil, causing the pearl string to turn yellow or black. Try to use Japanese cotton string for pearls. Tie a pearl knot between each pearl to prevent damage caused by collision and friction between each pearl.

Well, if you can do the above 7 points, then your pearl necklace will always shine with charming luster and accompany every stage of your life.
